Four research laboratories located in Ile-de-France are jointly organizing the 5th international workshop MA-XRF 2026 which will bring together researchers on a global scale implementing and developing 2D imaging by X-ray fluorescence (MA-XRF) for the study of heritage, in combination with complementary spectroscopic imaging in reflectance (RIS), luminescence (LIS), confocal XRF profiling and mapping (MA-CXRF). This event will be held in Paris from September 29 to October 2, 2026 on the site of the National Museum of Natural History and at the Ecole du Louvre. Five oral communications sessions and five poster sessions will present the latest technical advances in the development of instruments, innovative data evaluation methods and their integrated applications in analytical approaches in the field of cultural and natural heritage. These approaches also include questions of conservation-restoration, the challenges of climate change and new artificial intelligence tools. Emphasis will be placed on the combination of MA-XRF with other techniques in multimodal analytical approaches resolved at different scales. The morning of Friday October 2 is an open day dedicated to the theme “MA-XRF imaging through the prism of heritage professions”. The specific issues facing professionals in the sector, curators and restorers of collections, will be discussed. Practical study cases will serve as interdisciplinary examples for experimental, innovative and respectful approaches to study works of art and the environment.
