Summary :
The 9th International Congress “The Art of Prehistoric Societies” (ASP) is scheduled to take place in Paris, at the National Museum of Natural History (MNHN), at the end of 2026. A meeting place for specialists in the graphic activity of groups in prehistoric contexts, it is primarily dedicated to young researchers (who co- organize the event) who will have the opportunity to share their work, methods, and approaches with leading experts in the field. Four thematic areas will structure three days of oral presentations, lectures, and discussions, complemented by two days of field trips to the National Archaeology Museum, the Museum of Man, and the Museum of Prehistory of Île-de-France, as well as to the rock art complex in southern Île-de- France. This edition aims to further internationalize its call for papers, addressing questions related to materials, media, and techniques (Session I); spaces, territories, and environments (Session II); gestures, knowledge, and traditions (Session III); and historical and heritage perspectives for contextualizing, enhancing, and revising (Session IV). One objective is to broaden the audience of participating specialists beyond the European continent, focusing on innovative and multidisciplinary research conducted by young researchers, from the emergence of graphic and symbolic practices to their structuring and development over time, while encompassing a wide range of material cultures. Organized for the first time in Toulouse in 2008, it has since been held in several cities in Spain and Portugal, and is therefore returning to France for the first time in over 15 years. True to its history, the next edition, from December 2 to 6, 2026, will be organized at the Museum by a collective of young researchers, Laurie Pélissier (PhD student UMR PALEVOPRIM), Chi-Shan Tsai (PhD student UMR MECADEV and HNHP), Lisa Veysset (Master’s student Paris 1), accompanied by Stephane Petrognani (DST, INRAP), and Eric Robert (MC MNHN, UMR HNHP).
