Summary :

Ancient masonry heritage structures are vulnerable to various forms of material degradation, natural solicitations (e.g., wind, seismic activity, shrink-swell phenomena), and vibrations caused by anthropogenic activities. Their monitoring requires non-intrusive methods to preserve structural integrity. The VIBRAPAT project aims to validate the effectiveness of Doppler-based laser vibrometry for structural health monitoring of the Massy bell tower, comparing it with traditional methods using velocimeters. The EMGCU and LMPS laboratories now possess a scanning laser vibrometer (RSV- 150/PSV), acquired under the VIMAS project, enabling contactless vibration measurements. Data will be analyzed using Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition (EFDD) and Stochastic Subspace Identification (SSI) methods to identify the structure’s natural frequencies and vibration modes. Comparing the two technologies will assess their respective capabilities in detecting and characterizing vibrational modes. The project will also seek to automate data processing, particularly given the large volume of data generated by laser measurements. Additionally, monitoring temperature, humidity, and ground vibrations will help study the influence of environmental conditions and metro traffic on the measurements. The ultimate goal is to determine the reliability, accuracy, and limitations of Doppler-based laser vibrometry for the non-intrusive monitoring of heritage structures.
