Summary :

The project involves organizing the 20th conference of the Association of French Sedimentologists, which will take place on the Paris-Saclay University campus on October 27–28 and 29, 2026, and will be hosted by the Géosciences Paris-Saclay laboratory. The ASF Congress is the second most important national meeting in geosciences after the Réunion des Sciences de la Terre (RST). It is held every two years, alternating with the RST. Since its establishment in 1987, it has attracted an average of about 300 participants. It is a major event for the community working on sedimentary records in marine and continental contexts. Ten themes are proposed, covering various fields of sedimentology, ranging from marine and continental records to geopatrimony. The target audience includes professionals from the private and public sectors, doctoral students, and master’s students. One day will be dedicated to a career forum featuring presentations by companies on their fields of activity and personalized discussions with students. A dedicated workshop on digital technologies will also be organized. The guest lecture, open to the general public, will be presented by Jérôme Gaillardet on the topic of the critical zone. Seven one-day field trips will be organized before and after the conference to notable geosites in the Île-de-France region (Lutetian quarry, Fontainebleau sandstone, etc.). Although the conference is held in French, presentations in English are also possible. Scientists from French-speaking countries are represented, including Switzerland, Belgium, Morocco, and Algeria. The scientific committee and session organizers also include colleagues from international universities, such as the Universities of Lausanne, Benguerir, Fribourg, Potsdam, and Geneva.
