Summary :

The Institut de recherche et d’histoire des textes (IRHT), affiliated with CNRS, focuses on ancient texts, especially medieval manuscripts. Established in 1937, IRHT has created several reference systems and internal authority data, covering the numerous textual productions in multiple language domains. If all already in digital formats, they require a more integrated structure. IRHT’s project unifies and enhances the authority data, making historical texts and their physical carriers more accessible and interconnected for the scholarly community.
Among today’s challenges: (i) Harmonize internal reference systems; (ii) Align with external systems like VIAF, IdRef, Biblissima+, etc.; (iii) Improve the categorization of relationships between cultural works; (iv) Define access points for uncertain entities.
The goal is to merge systems into OPERA-IRHT (https://opera.irht.cnrs.fr), a unified repository with the Bibale platform, facilitating manuscript, printed material, and heritage study. OPERA-IRHT integrates with initiatives like Biblissima and will benefit IRHT and aid all researchers in identifying ancient and medieval works. Technical aspects involve data modeling, quality control, integration of and alignment with external data. It will be led by IRHT’s Digital Humanities division. The project follows FAIR principles, aiming for an open-access ontology as well as for open-access, free tor reuse software code and scholarly data.
